Description
What kind of wine it is
The Barbaresco by Giuseppe Cortese is a still red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. Its sensory profile is distinguished by marked freshness and a distinct mineral streak. On the palate, it is complex yet easy to drink, supported by a solid structure that allows it to evolve over time, even for ten or fifteen years. At the table, it enhances dishes based on red meats, game and cheeses. It expresses its bouquet best with a one-hour decanting and when served between sixteen and eighteen degrees Celsius.
Where it comes from
This interpretation of Barbaresco originates from plots located in the immediate vicinity of the Giuseppe Cortese winery. The vines grow between two hundred and thirty-five and three hundred and fifteen metres above sea level, enjoying optimal exposure to the south and south-west. The character of the wine comes directly from the calcareous-clay soils, stratified and particularly rich in minerals. Cultivation follows the Guyot training system, with a planting density designed to ensure the grapes reach an excellent level of ripeness.
How it is produced
The process begins with a rigorous manual harvest aimed at selecting the best fruit. Subsequently, the fermentation lasts about thirty days, allowing for a balanced extraction of colour and structure. Ageing takes place for eighteen months in Slavonian oak barrels that are already five or six years old, a deliberate choice to support the body of the wine while preserving its elegance. After a further rest in the bottle for at least six months, the wine expresses with precision and harmony its connection to its place of origin.
