Description

What kind of wine it is

The Champagne 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Les Rocheforts Extra Brut by Etienne Calsac is produced following the strict Traditional Method. This Champagne appears in the glass with a bright golden yellow hue, a pure expression of Chardonnay, and is crossed by a fine and continuous perlage. On the nose, it reveals clear fruity notes that introduce a fresh, balanced and persistent palate. The pronounced minerality that characterises this Premier Cru makes it the ideal companion to enhance refined seafood dishes, shellfish, sushi and soft cheeses.

Where it comes from

This single-vineyard cuvée originates from the specific Les Rocheforts plot, located in Bisseuil, in the heart of the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The terroir benefits from a favourable eastern exposure and is distinguished by a soil characterised by a deep outcrop of chalk. This geological composition is the central element that defines the flavour profile, giving this Blanc de Blancs a vibrant tension. The chalky soil enhances the natural freshness of the Chardonnay, delivering a clear and highly elegant territorial profile.

How it is produced

Etienne Calsac's approach in the cellar favours spontaneous fermentation activated exclusively by indigenous yeasts. The vinification phase and subsequent ageing take place half in oak barrels and half in stainless steel tanks, a deliberate choice to balance complex structure and aromatic precision. The wine undergoes neither filtration nor fining, preserving the original authenticity of the fruit. With a final Extra Brut dosage, the palate finishes with a pleasant and decisive persistence.

History and Curiosities

This prestigious single-vineyard cuvée originates in the Premier Cru of Bisseuil, where pure Chardonnay thrives on valuable chalk outcrops. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maturation, divided equally between oak barriques and stainless steel, enhance the authenticity of the terroir without resorting to filtration. In the glass, it shines as a golden yellow Extra Brut with a fine perlage, where pronounced minerality and fresh fruity notes elegantly accompany refined fish dishes, shellfish, sushi, and soft cheeses.

From this winery
Like the earth, wine is a living product. Plowing the soil and planting cover crops are the techniques that allow the terroir to best express itself. The roots of the vines descend deeply into the earth to search for the elements that give the grapes their unique character. The parcels are vinified separately in order to highlight the difference between the crus, and to allow them to be blended together harmoniously. Read more
