Description
What kind of wine it is
Chateau La Pointe Pomerol is a still red wine that faithfully reflects the Bordeaux terroir. The result of a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it appears in the glass with a bright ruby red colour and garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet centred on ripe dark fruits such as blackberry, plum and black cherry, enriched by clear toasted notes, spices and liquorice. On the palate, it is full and rounded, able to combine great structural freshness with noble tannins, delivering an elegant and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine is produced in Bordeaux, within the renowned Pomerol area. The estate takes its name from a distinctive triangular-shaped vineyard located at the entrance to the property. Surrounded by gardens and centuries-old trees, Chateau La Pointe boasts significant historical importance, being one of the first local estates to obtain the title of château in 1868. Its twenty-three hectares of vineyards ensure a strong expression of the terroir, offering ideal soil and climate conditions for the qualitative development of the cultivated varieties.
How it is produced
Production is based on a careful harvest, aimed at picking the grapes at the perfect stage of ripeness while maintaining low yields. The musts are rich and balanced, with well-defined acidity. The subsequent vinification process aims to preserve the roundness and aromatic intensity of the fruit. To fully enhance its sensory profile, a serving temperature of 14-17 °C and one hour of decanting are recommended. At the table, its smoothness ensures an excellent gastronomic pairing with red meats, pork and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Château La Pointe takes its name from a triangular-shaped vineyard located at the entrance of the estate, nestled among gardens and centuries-old trees. Counted among the first wineries in Pomerol to be elevated to the rank of “Château” in 1868, it has boasted prestigious accolades since 1882. From its 23 hectares comes a 2023 vintage distinguished by a historically early harvest. The reduced yields ensured musts that were rich and balanced from the outset, resulting in a prestigious wine awarded the excellent score of 95 points by James Suckling and 93 points by Decanter.

With its splendid two hectares of gardens and the magnificent age-old trees, Château La Pointe has always been a charming residence. The château really sprang into life under the Second Empire.
Unfortunately, many details of La Pointe’s history are unknown. What we do know is that, thanks to the Directoire style country house, it was one of the first two estates in Pomerol entitled to call themselves a "Château" in 1868. The vineyard already stretched over 22 hectares, and it remains one of the largest estates in the appellation to this day. La Pointe was awarded many medals from 1882 onwards: notably silver medals both at the Bordeaux Exhibition and at the Universal Exhibition of Amsterdam in 1883. Read more
