Description

What kind of wine it is

Chateau Branaire Ducru embodies the essence and elegance of its region. Crafted from a skilful blend of grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this wine reveals a complex and layered aromatic profile. On the nose, it unveils notes of ripe fruit perfectly balanced with fresh nuances and well-integrated oak. On the palate, it stands out for its silky roundness, generous volume and exceptionally refined tannins. The sip develops densely, supported by lively acidity that leads to a long, fruity finish. It pairs beautifully with red meats and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This red wine originates from Saint-Julien, one of the most renowned areas of Bordeaux. The estate is recognised as a Fourth Growth in the historic Grand Cru Classé classification of 1855. The privileged Médoc location of the vineyards encourages optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wine an ideal balance between density and freshness. Since 1988, the property has experienced a true renaissance thanks to the Maroteaux family, who have carefully renewed the vineyards and facilities. Today, the management of the Chateau is carried on with dedication by François-Xavier Maroteaux.

How it is produced

The winemaking process is aimed at enhancing the characteristics of each individual grape variety. The process continues with rigorous ageing in oak barrels, carefully calibrated to support the aromatic bouquet without ever overpowering the purity of the fruit. This slow maturation allows the development of an exquisitely fine tannic structure and an enveloping body. The vibrant underlying acidity ensures a tense and balanced sip, laying the foundations for a constant and fascinating evolution over time.

History and Curiosities

Classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Grand Cru Classé, Château Branaire-Ducru is a true historical landmark in Saint-Julien. Since 1988, the Maroteaux family has masterfully renovated the estate and cellars, entrusting its management to François-Xavier since 2017. The commitment to Bordeaux excellence is reflected in the magnificent 2021 vintage, which has received prestigious international accolades, including an exceptional 94 points awarded by James Suckling and Robert Parker.

Chateau Branaire Ducru
From this winery
Having recognised the unrealised potential of this viticultural sleeping beauty, Patrick Maroteaux and his family bought Château Branaire-Ducru in 1988. They decided to write a new chapter in the history of this fourth grand cru classé of 1855 and embarked on massive refurbishment and work involving all the components that contribute to the production of great wine: the vines, the vathouse and cellars, as well as the Château itself, which is the most visible representation of an estate.

Patrick Maroteaux also became an ambassador of Bordeaux and Branaire-Ducru, presiding over the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux from 2000 to 2008, and the Saint-Julien appellation from 2004 to 2017.

François-Xavier Maroteaux took over the management of the estate in 2017. The history continues…
