Description
What kind of wine it is
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva by Boscarelli is a still red Tuscan wine with a ruby hue, a true expression of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The bouquet releases aromas of cherry and morello cherry, intertwined with dried rose, balsamic notes, hints of burnt wood, mineral nuances and dark tobacco. On the palate, it is warm and robust, offering a sip of excellent body supported by a lively acidic vein and dense tannins that are well integrated, ensuring balance and aromatic persistence.
Where it comes from
This Riserva originates from the vineyards of Cervognano di Montepulciano, linked to the history of the Boscarelli family since 1962. The vines grow on calcareous soils of alluvial and sandy origin, composed of silt, clay and a marked mineral component. The presence of stony skeleton, which varies according to the exposure of the rows, directly influences the quality of the grapes. The soil composition gives the wine a tense flavour profile, defining a character in which mineral notes blend harmoniously with fruity and balsamic hints.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, followed by destemming and gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in oak vats thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures, with manual pumping over and punching down. A subsequent maceration phase encourages phenolic extraction. The long ageing process takes place in Slavonian or French oak barrels for a period ranging from twenty-eight to thirty-two months. A further rest in the bottle completes the wine's evolution, making it ideal to accompany meat dishes and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Born from a family tradition that began in 1962 in Cervognano, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva by Boscarelli expresses the authentic soul of the Tuscan region. The grapes, meticulously hand-picked, ferment in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, then mature during a long ageing process in French and Slavonian oak for a period of 28 to 32 months. This artisanal dedication gives rise to a warm and vibrant red wine, awarded 95 points by Decanter and the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, capable of delivering deep balsamic and mineral notes.

Born into an old Poliziana family in the Montepulciano region of the Siena countryside, he later graduated with a degree in economics and business. He spent most of his life working as an International broker in Genoa and Milan.
However, his infinite passion for wine and deep knowledge of his home region induced him to buy two semi-abandoned small farms in Cervognano of Montepulciano, a stunning corner of old Etruscan Tuscany. The ancient soils had long been cultivated in the traditional way with different annual crops and small vineyards.
Egidio’s dream and vision were embraced and invigorated by his daughter Paola and her husband Ippolito De Ferrari. Driven by their strong determination and dedication, they started Poderi Boscarelli in the ’60s. The development that followed brought renewed life to the age-old farming estate as Paola and Ippolito planted their first specialized vineyards at a density of 3,500 plants per hectare. They also built the first winery by renovating and adapting old stables.
The original spirit of the estate has now passed to the third generation of the family. Each day Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, Paola and Ippolito's sons, bring that same passion to wine production as they work to infuse each bottle with the aromas and flavours that Grandpa Egidio loved and searched for. Luca and Nicolò reselect and replant vineyards that continue to express the scents and range of characteristics of the incredible land that nurtures them. Read more
