Description

What kind of wine it is

Barbaresco Basarin by Angelo Negro is a structured still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, capable of reflecting the winemaking soul of Piedmont. In the glass, it displays a classic garnet red colour, a prelude to a bouquet dominated by red fruit and spices, enriched with delicate citrus notes. On the palate, it stands out for its balanced character, free from excessive tannic harshness, leading the tasting towards a soft and mentholated finish, ideal for prolonged cellaring.

Where it comes from

This Nebbiolo originates in Neive, at the heart of the Basarin cru, with vineyards situated at around 350 metres above sea level. The southern exposure ensures complete ripening of the grapes, giving the sip great linearity. The roots delve into a calcareous-marl soil of Miocene-Helvetian origin, enriched with veins of sand. This precise geological composition enhances the intensity of colour and the fragrance of the fruit, defining a well-calibrated tannic structure consistent with the personality of Barbaresco.

How it is produced

The grapes are harvested through careful manual picking in October. In the winery, the delicate extraction phase involves submerged cap maceration for a period between fifteen and eighteen days, an essential technique to define the garnet colour and harmonise the tannins. Maturation takes place over twenty-six months, divided between slow ageing in Slavonian oak barrels and subsequent rest in the bottle. This rigorous methodology ennobles the Nebbiolo, ensuring perfect structural balance.

History and Curiosities

This prestigious Barbaresco DOCG originates from the Basarin cru in Neive, an authentic expression of Nebbiolo crafted by Angelo Negro. The grapes, grown at an altitude of 350 metres on south-facing calcareous-marl soils, produce a wine of rare elegance. After careful hand harvesting and traditional maceration, the wine matures for 26 months between Slavonian oak barrels and bottle. This meticulous care shapes a spicy and smooth profile, preserved in the historic Albeisa bottle that pays tribute to Piedmont's great winemaking tradition.
