Valdipiatta

Tenuta Valdipiatta is an estate vineyard and winery in south-eastern Tuscany, in the heart of Italy’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano region. Montepulciano has over 2,500 years of wine-growing history. Its red wines are made from Italy’s signature red wine grape, the Sangiovese, or ‘Prugnolo’ as locals call it here. Valdipiatta has always been family owned. It was founded in the 1960's by the original owner and subsequently acquired at the end of the 1980's by Giulio Caporali, who fulfilled his dream of living in one of Tuscany's most beautifully preserved, rural environments while making his own wine. In 2002 Giulio handed the running of Valdipiatta over to his daughter Miriam. Miriam was well prepared, having studied business in Rome and winemaking in Bordeaux. "What I learnt there was that smooth-tasting wines with unique and interesting flavours could only be made with environmentally respectful grape-growing and sensitive winemaking", Miriam says.
