Domaine Les Grandes Vignes is located in Thouarcé in the heart of Anjou and boasts an ancient winemaking tradition dating back to the seventeenth century when the Vaillant family began passing down these lands from generation to generation. Today the estate is dedicatedly managed by siblings Jean François, Dominique and Laurence Vaillant alongside their team.
The production philosophy rests on a deep harmony between nature and humanity, reflected since 2008 in the rigorous choice of organic and biodynamic agriculture with official certifications across the entire vineyard area. In the fields the grapevine is considered an integral part of a living ecosystem shaped by the influences of earth, air and water. The complex soils, composed of schist, quartz, phtanite and sand, are nurtured solely through cover crops, organic compost and plant based biodynamic preparations, renouncing any synthetic chemicals to stimulate biological soil life and strengthen the natural resilience of the vines.
The same transparent and non interventionist ethic continues in the cellar, where fruit processing follows natural wine principles. Fermentations start spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts, without synthetic additives, fining or filtration. Sulfite use is either avoided or kept to the absolute minimum, while racking and bottling operations follow the lunar calendar. The outcome is a collection of wines based on Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Pineau d'Aunis that clearly, faithfully and purely expresses the genuine identity of the Loire terroir.
