| Story | The name Primitivo derives from the early ripening of the grapes. Its origins are uncertain, perhaps a native of Dalmatia and imported to Apulia by the Illyrians more than two thousand years ago. To support this thesis, according to some authors, Primitivo would be identical to the Croatian vine, Plavac Mali, and even more so to the Zinfandel native to Hungary and later brought to California and Australia. Recent DNA analyses have confirmed this hypothesis. ('Vitigni d'Italia' Scienza, Calò, Costacurta). |
