Description

The Villa Antinori Bianco is produced in the Villa Cigliano, a place that saw the dawn of the Antinori family's winemaking history. The term "Villa" in fact expresses the values and sentiments that Niccolo Antinori wanted to pass on since 1928 through a selection of wines that represent the symbol of Casa Antinori on the label and also in their aromas. A century later, Villa Antinori still perfectly describes the Tuscan territory with products that on the one hand focus on experimentation and evolution and on the other have a historical soul that recounts the region's winemaking tradition.

Villa Antinori Bianco, introduced in 1931 by Niccolò Antinori, is the representation of contemporaneity and of an evolution whose only fixed point is the search for the highest quality margins. Produced with a blend of traditional local and non-local grapes, it is harvested in the first week of September, starting with the Pinot Grigio, continuing with Pinot Bianco, Trebbiano and Tuscan Malvasia, and concluding with the Riesling Renano at the beginning of October. The harvested grapes are delicately destemmed and pressed, then cooled to 10°C to promote natural clarification. After 48 hours, the must is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 18°C. The wine rests in tanks at a temperature of 10°C until bottling. The label has remained practically unchanged over the years, as the production philosophy, although oriented towards the evolution of flavors, remains that of representing the territory of origin and, in fact, also the graphic choice of including the historic symbol and the family villa.

The ancient Antinori family has resided in Florence since the early 13th century when they moved from Calenzano, a village between Florence and Prato where their presence is recorded in 1188. The family initially worked in the silk trade and joined the Guild of Silk Weavers in 1285.

The Antinori family’s first encounter with wine dates back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Wine Merchants to make the best use of the family’s country properties in Valdarno, around Florence.

However, it was not until the 16th century that banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori made the wine from his estates famous in Italy and abroad, travelling from Lyons to Flanders, and from Spain to Algiers.

Wine was to remain the family’s passion and main business activity, so much so that in 1898 the "Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori" was created by brothers Lodovico and Piero, the sons of Marchese Niccolò – a direct descendent of that other Niccolò who purchased Palazzo Antinori in 1506 and poured his efforts into publicising Tuscan wines around the world and creating fine quality products. For 26 generations the Antinori family have continued to make history.

In 2023, at the beginning of February, Villa Antinori Toscana IGT 2019 was named the third wine in the world, the only Italian wine, in Wine Specator's Top 10 Values 2022: the list of the 10 wines that according to the American magazine represent world excellence in terms of value for money.
