Description
Susumaniello Oltreme is a product of Tenute Rubino, with the IGT Salento designation, obtained from 100% Susumaniello grapes, grown on vineyards located in Brindisi, Puglia. The vines grow on sandy soil with a significant limestone component, which is essential for giving this wine its enveloping and rounded flavor, and are trained using the spurred cordon technique. The harvest is done in early October, strictly by hand, and proceeds with the vinification which involves alcoholic fermentation of the must in special stainless steel tanks, and a subsequent malolactic, which involves the transformation of malic acid into lactic acid. The latter occurs in the first days of spring and makes the wine smoother. The maturation process is initially conducted in stainless steel tanks, then continues in the bottle for a period of at least three months. The soils on which this excellent wine grows are located at sea level, and this, along with other climatic characteristics, contribute to the production of grapes of exceptional oenological excellence. Oltremè, in fact, manages to develop these unmistakable notes precisely thanks to the characteristics of this native Salento grape, which is precisely why it has received numerous awards, such as the Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, making it a wine worth trying, especially if you're heading to Puglia.

Both the traditions of Salento and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit have been passed down from Tommaso to his son, Luigi, who has since taken over with the support of his wife, Romina. Luigi has undertaken this entrepreneurial legacy, pouring all of his passion into the family’s winery and making it a global ambassador of Apulian viticulture.
After all, winemaking is an ancient art here in Jaddico: over the years, archaeologists have brought to light a Roman manor house filled with kilns, where Visellio—the owner of the estate—fired the amphorae used to export his wine to the four corners of the Roman Empire. At the time, this land was home to extensive vineyards and served as an important manufacturing center for wine containers.
