Description
Still organic red Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 13.5% ABV, produced by Tenuta San Giorgio. 100% Sangiovese, 0.75L bottle, 2020 vintage. A Brunello made from vineyards located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Montalcino. Tenuta San Giorgio is exclusively dedicated to Sangiovese, the emblematic grape of this land. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with gentle, repeated pumping over, allowing for long macerations and the slow release of only the finest, fully ripe tannins. Aged in first-passage barriques (30%), second-passage barriques (70%), and third-passage barriques (70%), where the wine ages for 12 months. Aged in 30 and 50 Hl Slavonian oak barrels for a further 24 months. It exudes highly inviting aromas of wild strawberries, leather, cedar wood, and dried mandarin peel. Rich in elegance and balanced on the palate. Notes of cedarwood, plums, and juicy figs are also discernible, along with a subtle hint of truffle. The tannins are balanced and delicate, creating a tight yet complex structure. Extremely layered and exciting.

Of the estate’s 142 hectares, just 28 are under vine, all devoted to Sangiovese – the variety that most deeply expresses this land. The rows are trained using the spurred cordon system and kept to very low yields, to preserve the purity and quality of the fruit. Each vineyard is organically farmed and shaped by the singular microclimate of Monte Amiata, the extinct volcano that rises to 1,738 meters and watches over the landscape. Read more
