Description

What kind of wine it is

Prunotto Barolo Cerretta is a still red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. The garnet red with ruby highlights introduces a bouquet of rose and violet, intertwined with notes of pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, it offers an enveloping texture, with sweet and silky tannins that enhance aromas of red fruits, cherry and liquorice. The sip unfolds into a long and harmonious finish, making it ideal for pairing with structured dishes such as braised meats, game and truffle pasta.

Where it comes from

This Barolo originates from the Cerretta vineyard, located on the hills of Serralunga d’Alba in the heart of Piedmont. The rows rest on south-facing terraces, benefiting from a microclimate ideal for grape ripening. The identity of the area is shaped by layered calcareous and clay soils, which give the flavour profile a distinct intensity. Thanks to these pedoclimatic conditions, Prunotto enhances an expression capable of guaranteeing great ageing potential.

How it is produced

Production begins with a manual harvest, followed by destemming and crushing. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, with skin maceration for eight to ten days to allow a gentle extraction of colour. Once malolactic fermentation is completed by the end of winter, the wine rests for at least eighteen months in oak barrels of various capacities. This carefully calibrated ageing period shapes the structure and defines the finesse of the wine.

History and Curiosities

Presented in 2017 by the historic winery Prunotto, this selection expresses the authentic soul of the Cerretta vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba. Grown on calcareous and clay soils facing south, the Nebbiolo grapes give rise to a red wine with innate aristocratic elegance. The traditional ageing in large oak barrels enhances its extraordinary complexity, ensuring a longevity of 10-15 years. The exceptional 2020 vintage boasts an impressive 96 points from Decanter, confirming it as a true gem of Piedmontese oenology.
