Description

What kind of wine it is

Maxime Blin Champagne Grande Tradition Extra Brut faithfully expresses the style of the winery. Crafted using the Traditional Method, it is born from a harmonious blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In the glass, it reveals a fresh and refined profile, with distinct notes of white flowers and citrus. Its balanced structure and lively freshness make it ideal as an aperitif or to accompany delicate starters. The elegance of the perlage introduces a rounded and dry finish, perfect for enhancing fish and shellfish.

Where it comes from

This Champagne is produced in Trigny, in the heart of the French wine-growing region of the same name. The vineyards benefit from excellent south and south-east exposure, an environmental factor that ensures the grapes ripen properly while maintaining vibrant freshness. The vines thrive on sandy and clay-limestone soil, which imparts clear finesse and pure fruit to the glass. The history of the Maxime Blin winery began in 1947 and continues today to enhance the authentic terroir of Trigny.

How it is produced

Production carefully follows the rules of the Traditional Method, favouring aromatic clarity and definition of the perlage. After the harvest, the must obtained from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes undergoes the first fermentation. The base wine is then bottled for the prise de mousse, followed by 36 months of ageing on the lees. This stage enriches the palate with structural complexity while retaining a dry character. Disgorgement finally involves an Extra Brut dosage of four grams per litre, resulting in a harmonious and clean finish.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Trigny in 1947, the Maxime Blin maison boasts a long family history of dedication and artisanal expertise. The renowned cuvée Grande Tradition is a tribute to the company's roots, born from Gilles' desire to showcase the Chardonnay grown in their own vineyards. Awarded 90 points by Decanter, this refined Extra Brut authentically expresses the essence of the region, establishing itself as the cellar's classic, capable of celebrating absolute elegance across generations.

From this winery
First came Juliette and Robert, whose longing for business and creativity saw them plant the winery’s first vines after World War II. Then came Gilles, who joined forces with his wife Madeleine. They accomplished a great deal in their time: building the press and vat room and going into sales. Then Maxime came back to the fold in 2005. Claire may not have been working for Domaine Blin back then, but she was involved in introducing a winemaking system and launching a range of signature vintages for her own family’s business.

They weren’t on the same career path yet but Claire and Maxime had already started to lay the first stones, gradually building the same ambition and vision. "It always felt very natural working together. We balance each other out, we work differently but we share the same values: a passion for wine, creativity, good food and wine, love for the land, good hospitality and a real focus on the environment," they say in unison.

2012 was a milestone moment in their lives: their long-awaited and longed-for twin daughters were born. Naturally, that changed their lives. Claire explains: "My brother had decided to join the family winery. And I had a growing desire to work on a project with Maxime. Naturally, when Clémence and Olivia were born [and inspired the Clé d’Eole vintage to be born too], I started splitting my time between the two businesses. Until I returned full time in 2021."

Over time, Claire and Maxime worked together to progress, revolutionise, experiment, establish and understand their "fantastic playground". New vintages appeared, fuelled by new winemaking methods and changes to farming techniques. The vineyard switched to organic farming and was approved in 2021. A holiday home was built "to have the opportunity to share and get together." The brand’s identity and gourmet character came into its own.
