Description

What kind of wine it is

The Coteaux Champenois Blanc Ambonnay by Marguet is a still biodynamic white wine that expresses the pure character of its terroir. This blend combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, offering a profile centred on freshness. In the glass, it displays a brilliant straw yellow colour, introducing a delicate bouquet of floral aromas and fruity notes. On the palate, it is pleasant, supported by a vibrant savouriness and a long persistence that invites another sip. It pairs ideally with seafood dishes, shellfish, and sushi.

Where it comes from

This Coteaux Champenois originates in Ambonnay, a renowned Champagne village historically dedicated to the production of still wines. The grapes come from old vines cultivated under biodynamic principles, focusing on the health of the agricultural ecosystem. The estate entrusts vineyard work to the use of horses, preserving the wellbeing of the land and avoiding soil compaction. Such agronomic rigour results in a wine with a taut and clean profile, where pronounced freshness is revealed with absolute naturalness.

How it is produced

The process begins with a direct pressing of the grapes, essential for extracting extremely clean musts. Afterwards, the liquid undergoes both fermentation and a period of maturation in barrels, an ideal approach to encourage the aromatic development of the blend. The skilful use of wood supports the flavour structure, building an elegant structure without compromising the fresh character of the fruit. This process delivers a harmonious glass, characterised by a clear sensory continuity between the nose and the palate.

History and Curiosities

The Ambonnay Blanc by Marguet is a rare still white wine Coteaux Champenois AOC. Produced from old vines using biodynamic agriculture, it expresses a genuine harmony with nature, enhanced by soil cultivation with the help of horses. The 2022 vintage combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, highlighting their complexity through a strict barrel fermentation. The result is a glass with a straw-yellow colour that reveals delicate floral and fruity aromas, offering a fresh, pleasantly savoury and persistent taste.

Located in the heart of the prestigious Grand Cru village of Ambonnay, Marguet is one of the most authoritative and radical benchmarks for natural and biodynamic viticulture in Champagne. The estate's philosophy centers on deep ecology, respect for life, and the pursuit of optimal harmony between vines, soil, and mankind.

The domaine tends old vines with an average age of around 40 years, spread across two of the most renowned terroirs of the Montagne de Reims:
8 total estate-owned hectares:

7.30 hectares in Ambonnay, distributed among the renowned crus Les Saints Remys, Les Beurys, Les Crayères, La Grande Ruelle, Les Bermonts, and Le Parc

0.70 hectares in Bouzy, divided between the Les Loges and Les Hannepés parcels

In the vineyard, every practice adheres to certified Organic and Demeter ecological and holistic principles.
Since 2010, soil tilling has been carried out exclusively with horses to avoid tractor-induced soil compaction, protect wild flora, preserve biodiversity, and connect directly with the chalk subsoil.
Vine care and defense rely on herbal macerations, infusions, and decoctions, complemented by the targeted use of essential oils, completely excluding synthetic chemicals.

In the cellar, vinification follows the natural energy of the raw fruit without invasive intervention, utilizing gentle, natural methods:

Gravity-fed transfers: Musts and base wines are moved by natural fall to minimize mechanical stress.

Aging and naturopathic approach: Significant emphasis is placed on extended lees aging and on the wine's energetic balance.

Expressive purity: The primary objective is to enhance the chalky minerality and authentic identity of each individual parcel and vintage—a principle epitomized by the Sapience range, the famed prestige cuvée crafted from certified organic grapes.
