Description
Moscato Bricco Quaglia is a sweet and aromatic white wine made from 100% Moscato d'Asti white grapes. The La Spinetta winery takes its name from the hill in Castagnole Lanze, Piedmont, where it has been located since 1977. The Moscato grape variety, whose original name, Muscat, refers to the grape's musky scent, is widespread especially in Piedmont and Oltrepò Pavese. A curious fact: customers are often fascinated and wonder why a rhinoceros is depicted on the winery's labels. There is no direct connection between the animal and the history of these wines; Giorgio Rivetti simply has a great admiration for the famous woodcuts by the German artist Albrecht Dürer. Naturally, Moscato Bricco Quaglia is an exception, featuring the eponymous galliform bird on the label. Moscato Bricco Quaglia is grown on the sandy, calcareous soil of the Bricco Quaglia area. The vine is vigorous and trained using the Guyot system. Harvest takes place in mid-September, and pressing is done using lung presses. The resulting must is stored in cold storage at 0°C until fermentation, which takes place at a controlled temperature of 18 to 20°C. When the must reaches 4-5 degrees of alcohol, fermentation is stopped by refrigeration at -3°C, filtered, and bottled after sterilizing microfiltration. This prevents the wine from clouding, altering its flavor, or even breaking the bottle. Moscato Bricco Quaglia is not a sparkling wine, but it retains a delicate vivacity that makes it unique and gives it that unmistakable aroma of peach and apricot.
