Description

What type of wine it is

Franz Gojer’s Lagrein Granat is a red wine with the Alto Adige Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) produced from Lagrein grapes and aged in large wooden casks. In the glass, it presents a deep dark violet hue, introducing a clean bouquet of blackberries, chocolate and spicy notes. On the palate, it reveals itself as full-bodied and fleshy, supported by firm tannins and balanced by a pleasant acidity. The sip concludes with a persistent fruity finish, which enhances an elegant structure of great concentration.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from plots located between Ora and Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. In Ora, the soils, formed by deposits from the Adige River, feature a stony alluvial matrix rich in porphyry. In Bolzano, the alluvial soils of the Isarco dominate, characterised by a solid porphyritic subsoil. This complex geology defines the aromatic intensity and the firm tannic texture of the wine. A targeted blend of grapes from the two vineyards harmoniously combines strength, structure and remarkable finesse.

How it is produced

Manual harvesting allows for the careful selection of the best bunches. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel and in large, lightly toasted oak casks. This is followed by a reduction in acidity and long ageing in large wooden casks, which consolidates the body and ensures an estimated longevity of between five and ten years. Served at a temperature of 16–18°C after decanting for an hour, this wine ideally accompanies braised meats and game, elegantly enhancing mature cheeses as well.

History and interesting facts

Franz Gojer - Glögglhof’s Lagrein Granato is an authentic expression of Alto Adige DOC, originating from historic vineyards located between Ora and Bolzano. The alluvial soils, rich in porphyry, give this indigenous wine a perfect balance between strength and refinement. The grapes, harvested by hand, ferment and mature in large wooden casks: a meticulous process that softens the acidity and enhances the body. This artisanal dedication ensures remarkable longevity, allowing this excellent red to evolve magnificently in the bottle for five to ten years.
