Description
Wine style
Federico Graziani's Rosso di Mezzo is an Etna Rosso DOC red wine, made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts, it reveals a clear ruby colour and intense aromas of redcurrant, wild blueberry and blood orange. On the palate, it is smooth and elegant, supported by light and lively tannins that lead into a distinct flinty mineral finish.
Provenance
This wine comes from the Cubito plot in Passopisciaro, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The vineyards are located at an altitude of six hundred metres, sheltered from the scirocco wind and benefiting from high diurnal temperature variations. This climate allows for slow ripening, keeping the aromatic freshness intact. The character of the terroir emerges thanks to the historic century-old pre-phylloxera vines and careful massal selection, which give the grapes great depth and enhance the intense volcanic vocation of the area.
Production
Winemaking aims to enhance the elegance of the grapes by minimising intervention in the cellar. The must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Subsequent maturation involves ageing in barrels and steel for twenty-four months, allowing the wine to reach its ideal balance. The process concludes with six months of bottle ageing, which defines a sharp profile and ensures a refined gustatory harmony with a subtle texture.
History and curiosities
Rosso di Mezzo is born in the Cubito plot in Passopisciaro, at an altitude of 600 metres on the slopes of Mount Etna. Here, historic centenary pre-phylloxera vines benefit from significant temperature variations, which ensure deep and complex ripening of the grapes. Federico Graziani enhances the identity of this terroir through fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 24 months of ageing in steel and tonneaux and a further six months in the bottle. This vibrant Etna Rosso expresses natural elegance and faithfulness to the vineyard.

For the past 2000 years, people here have been growing vineyards in small plots of land reclaimed from the mountain, living in symbiosis with the volcano and adapting to the power and unpredictability of its elements. This is slow and ancient work, carried out by hand with toil, passion, and respect. Read more
