Description

What kind of wine is it

The Champagne Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny Extra Brut is a robust Blanc de Noirs by Egly-Ouriet, made from Pinot Meunier grapes in a balanced blend with reserve wines. Produced using the Traditional Method, it displays a straw yellow colour with silvery highlights. The bouquet releases fragrant notes of apple, pear, thyme, brioche and hazelnut. On the palate, the warm structure and persistent perlage enhance distinct spicy hints of ginger and citrus, making it ideal to accompany seafood starters, shellfish and cheeses.

Where does it come from

The grapes are grown in Vrigny, a territory classified as Premier Cru in Champagne. The cuvée is born from old vines cultivated with full respect for organic and sustainable viticulture. The terroir boasts deep soils formed by layers of chalk, capable of reflecting daylight and releasing warmth during the night. This particular geological matrix gives the tasting a clear mineral character, enhanced by the récoltant manipulant philosophy to preserve the authentic agronomic identity of the cru without alteration.

How is it produced

The artisanal approach in the cellar is based on spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and the exclusion of any filtration, safeguarding the integrity of the must. Following the strict steps of the Traditional Method, the Champagne continues its development with a slow ageing in the bottle, maturing for at least three years before release. Such care defines the Extra Brut identity of the cuvée, offering a final sip that is dry, rigorous and characterised by remarkable and clean expressive persistence.

History and Curiosities

This Champagne Blanc de Noirs is a rarity from Egly-Ouriet, the result of old Pinot Meunier vines cultivated in the Premier Cru terroir of Vrigny. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and unfiltered, this artisanal cuvée matures for three years in the cellar. On the palate, it reveals notes of apple and brioche, enriched by warm spicy hints of ginger. Awarded 92 points, it stands out for its persistent perlage and refined minerality derived from chalky soils, offering a harmonious balance ideal for enhancing fine shellfish and cheeses.

A Champagne that represents its terroir: the vine and soil are found throughout this wine, thanks to old vines, a few winemaker's secrets and modern technology. Egly-Ouriet produces champagne only with grapes from its 11.5 hectares company's vineyards, the most important of which are in Ambonnay, the home of Pinot Noir, the others in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Quality begins on this particular soil, made up of layers of chalk that reflect the sun's rays and release heat to the vines at night, allowing excess water to be absorbed and giving the grapes a particularly mineral taste.
