Description
What kind of wine it is
Teodor Bianco Selezione Cru Brda by Marjan Simčič is an elegant white wine, a Slovenian blend based on Ribolla Gialla, Friulano and Pinot Grigio. It presents an intense yellow colour with golden highlights, anticipating a fruity aromatic profile enhanced by clear hints of butter and bread crust. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied and balanced structure, characterised by a long and pleasant finish. Thanks to its deep and enveloping profile, it is the ideal companion for truffle risottos, poultry-based dishes and medium-matured cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the hills of the renowned Brda region in Slovenia (sub-zones of Medana-Jama, Zegla and Rusic), from old vines reaching sixty-three years of age. The vineyards, cultivated at moderate altitudes and with low yields, allow for a high aromatic concentration in the clusters. The terroir is distinguished by a mineral soil composed of marl, slate and sandstone, known locally as opoka, with some clay-dominant areas. This unique habitat ensures a clear territorial connection for the wine.
How it is produced
Production begins with manual harvesting, followed by a spontaneous fermentation carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts in oak vats and stainless steel. The different varieties undergo a targeted maceration in contact with the skins and a soft pressing; no filtration is carried out to preserve the integrity of the must. The subsequent ageing in oak barrels lasts twenty-three months, giving the wine aromatic complexity and a solid structure before its final rest. This careful artisanal production ensures the wine has remarkable ageing potential.
History and Interesting Facts
Marjan Simčič's Teodor Bianco Selezione Cru embodies the dedication of five generations of winemakers from the Brda region. It originates from old vines aged between 56 and 63 years, deeply rooted in the precious opoka marl soils. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and skin maceration enhance its territorial essence. Bottled without filtration after 23 months of ageing in oak and two months in the bottle, it offers absolute complexity. An artisanal masterpiece, internationally celebrated for its exceptional potential for long ageing.
