Description
What kind of wine it is
Côtes-du-Rhône Les Garrigues from Domaine de la Janasse is a still red wine that embodies the spirit of the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation. It is made from century-old Grenache vines, offering a full-bodied sip with excellent structure. On the nose, clear notes of strawberry and blackberry emerge, preceding an enveloping and powerful palate. Ageing in tank preserves the intensity of the fruit, delivering a balanced sip, perfect for pairing with succulent meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in Courthézon, in the Rhône Valley, near the renowned area of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The roots penetrate deeply into pebble soils resting on a layer of red clay, a composition that encourages optimal ripening and imparts great structural depth. The action of the Maestral wind ensures perfectly healthy bunches, shaping a clean and vibrant aromatic profile. Low yields allow the essence of the old vines to be concentrated, translating the vocation of the terroir into a distinctive expression.
How it is produced
Domaine de la Janasse adopts sustainable farming practices, using natural fertilisers and working the soil to encourage vitality and aeration. After a careful manual harvest with rigorous selection, the bunches are partially destemmed. Vinification proceeds with a controlled maceration of twenty-one days and manual pressing to gradually extract colour and substance. This is followed by a twelve-month rest in tank, a targeted ageing aimed at preserving the aromatic clarity and delivering a harmonious tasting experience.
History and Curiosities
In Courthézon, in the Rhône Valley, this prestigious label originates from a small 2.5-hectare vineyard cultivated with century-old Grenache. The stony soils on red clay, swept by the Mistral wind, shape a wine of powerful yet elegant character. The estate adopts sustainable practices, excluding pesticides in favour of natural fertilisers. After a rigorous manual harvest, the bunches macerate for twenty-one days and mature for twelve months in tank, enhancing clear fruity aromas in a limited production of 9,333 bottles that capture the pure essence of the terroir.

Due to its fragmented structure -more than sixty plots- the area of La Janasse covers a mosaic of terroirs. Thorough research on soil, exposure and microclimates helped to ideally organize the vineyard. White varieties and syrahs were preferably planted on sandy limestones, exposed eastward of the appellation in order to preserve freshness, acidity and fineness. Mourvedres were planted on clay-limestone soils covered with river rocks so as to reach perfect maturity. Read more
