Description

What kind of wine it is

Castrum Roche Langhe Nebbiolo is a still red wine produced in Piedmont from Nebbiolo grapes. In the glass, it displays a clear ruby red colour, enriched with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it offers a bouquet intertwining mallow flowers and woodland notes with hints of crisp cherry, subtle balsamic nuances, peppercorns and cinchona. On the palate, the entry is enveloping, supported by a pleasant freshness and savouriness, while the structure rests on a vigorous tannin that accompanies a long and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Piedmont, in the area of La Morra, at the heart of the Langhe. The Castrum Roche brand is a small artisanal enterprise born from the desire to reclaim family land. The first vineyard dates back to 2014, while production under the current name began a few years later. With an area of about two hectares, the company pursues a project aimed at the direct territorial expression of the grape variety, deeply enhancing the connection with the Piedmontese soil.

How it is produced

Made entirely from Nebbiolo grapes, this red expresses an ageing potential that can reach up to fifteen years. To best appreciate its floral and balsamic nuances, it is recommended to decant for one hour before consumption, which helps promote oxygenation and balance in the sip. The ideal serving temperature is between 14 and 16°C. Thanks to its versatility, it lends itself to excellent food pairings: it pairs perfectly with game, pork, meatballs in sauce and cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Castrum Roche is an interesting up-and-coming producer from La Morra, in the heart of Piedmont. Founded in 2014 on land reclaimed from the grandparents, the winery produces an excellent Langhe Nebbiolo DOC by carefully cultivating around two hectares of vineyards. The 2024 vintage reflects the genuine passion of Azienda Agricola Costamagna Isacco, offering a robust pure Nebbiolo that fully expresses the vocation of the region. The wine is presented in an elegant embossed-neck bottle, enhanced by a vibrant blue capsule and an illustration that pays homage to the village of origin.

This small company was born in 2017 as Azienda Agricola Costamagna Isacco, but the first vineyard was born in 2014, on the land taken back from his grandparents. From there, the young Isacco, assisted largely by his maternal grandmother's brother, began to expand the company to the current 2 hectares.

In 2021, after having delivered the grapes to Trediberri from 2017 to 2020 and, having just graduated, Isacco, began to make wine and also decided to change the company name to the current one: Castrum Roche.
