Description
What kind of wine it is
Binomio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a still red wine that expresses the intensity of Montepulciano grapes. It stands out for its powerful and structured profile, with clear notes of blackberry, wild strawberries and spices. On the palate, it offers a rich sip, supported by a mature and balanced tannin that leads to a fresh and persistent finish. Careful vinification and maturation in barrels enhance its flavour profile, ensuring a pleasant aromatic depth.
Where it comes from
The vineyards grow in the province of Pescara, at the foot of the Majella mountains. Situated at an altitude between 300 and 350 metres, they benefit from an ideal southern exposure for perfect ripening. The medium-textured clay soils give the wine a solid structure and natural drive. The Binomio label was created with the aim of enhancing a historic vineyard, offering a vibrant and authentic version of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
How it is produced
The manual harvest takes place in the second half of October, ensuring a rigorous selection of Montepulciano bunches. After destemming, the grapes ferment in vertical vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place in new and second-use barrels for about fifteen months, with periodic rackings to aid its development. To preserve the fruit’s richness, no fining is carried out, with only a light final filtration.
History and Curiosities
Born from the collaboration between Stefano Inama and Sabatino di Properzio, the Binomio project has given rise to an opulent and modern Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. The soul of this powerful red lies in a historic 1971 vineyard, located at the foot of the Maiella. In this unique terroir, Abruzzo’s winemaking tradition merges with careful ageing in barriques, releasing intense aromas of wild berries. An excellence supported by mature, balanced tannins, awarded 93 points by international critics for its majestic structure.

The project certainly arose from the common passion of the two producers for this particular terroir: Abruzzo is "strong but gentle": an extremely charming region, but rarely visited.
Fattoria La Valentina and Azienda Agricola Inama developed the project during the first two vintages of ’98 and ’99. Using these wines we started to perfect the recipe in order to get the best from this vine. The operation really took off in 2000 with the purchase of an extraordinary vineyard in Località San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore. This old 4.2-hectare vineyard was planted in the 1970s in a splendid position very near to the Majella National Park.
Hereafter, Binomio gradually make its way year by year, becoming a landmark among the best wines of the region. Read more
