Description

What kind of spirit it is

Berto Gin Dry by Distilleria Quaglia is a structured London Dry gin from Piedmont, Italy, crafted from high-quality grain alcohol at 43% ABV. It offers a smooth and beautifully balanced sensory profile, anchored by a core of juniper alongside vibrant citrus notes of lemon and orange. The aromatic bouquet reveals resinous, floral, and herbaceous nuances, leading to a persistent finish defined by Mediterranean balsamic tones. Careful maturation allows the botanicals to integrate fully, making this spirit highly versatile for classic cocktails such as a Negroni or a Gin and tonic.

Where it comes from

This spirit originates from Castelnuovo Don Bosco in Piedmont, Italy, nestled between Turin and Monferrato. Crafted by Quaglia, a family-run estate active since 1890, it reflects four generations of distilling expertise and deep ties to local recipes. This strong connection to the land is demonstrated through the careful selection of natural raw materials, resulting in a precise botanical profile. Operating as a certified organic distillery since 2018, the producer creates authentic spirits while prioritising environmental protection.

How it is produced

Berto Gin Dry is carefully crafted in a discontinuous pot still through traditional small-batch distillation. The intricate recipe is centred on juniper, incorporating lemon and orange peel alongside iris root, wormwood, bay laurel, rosemary, coriander, and cardamom. These ingredients are delicately extracted to preserve absolute clarity and balance. Following distillation, controlled maturation ensures the botanicals blend into a harmonious profile. This meticulous method yields a structured spirit featuring a dry, enveloping palate and a consistent aromatic profile from nose to finish.

History and Curiosities

Berto Gin Dry pays tribute to the heritage of Antica Distilleria Quaglia, a family-run estate established in Piedmont in 1890. Based in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, this spirit draws on historic Turinese recipes to offer a truly authentic experience. Meticulously distilled from grain alcohol in a classic discontinuous pot still, it reflects a profound respect for the local terroir. As a certified organic distillery since 2018, Quaglia seamlessly blends time-honoured craftsmanship with natural ingredients, creating a traditional gin that works in perfect harmony with the land.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1890
  • Oenologist: Carlo Quaglia
The company was established in 1890, a few years after the Unification of Italy, under the sun of Castelnuovo Don Bosco, an area with a deep wine tradition between Turin and Monferrato. Distelleria Quaglia is rooted in an invaluable heritage of recipes, secrets and precious knowledge that have been handed down for four generations and defy the passage of time by keeping their value intact.

The production of high-quality liqueurs and spirits soon joined the production of grappa in the early years. The company's philosophy is to operate in symbiosis with the land, respecting the raw materials it gives us and protecting the rules that protect it. For this reason, Distelleria Quaglia has been certified as an Organic Distillery since 2018.

Each liqueur writes a story of the terroir and raw materials as the company believes that the distiller's art is to tell it by seeking the perfect combination of aromas and sensations. Time is the secret ingredient combined with patience and rest, one of the most important aspects to take the product to a higher level of quality.

Craftsmanship is the key. The company starts preparing the liqueur by looking for excellence in the raw materials and processing them by hand to preserve all the properties intact.
