Description

What type of spirit it is

Akashi Whisky Blended is a refined Japanese Blended Whisky crafted by White Oak. Combining single malt and grain spirits with a 30% malted barley content, it displays a rich amber colour. The bouquet offers a balanced mix of citrus, pepper, vanilla, and honey. Bottled at 40% ABV, this spirit reveals a robust, pleasantly oily texture grounded by clear notes of wood and cinnamon, concluding with a long and smooth finish that leaves a persistent trail of warming spices and subtle sweetness.

Where it comes from

Produced in Akashi within the Hyōgo Prefecture on Honshu island, this spirit is crafted by White Oak. Originally established in 1888 for sake production, the estate expanded into whisky in the mid-1980s. The evolution of Japanese whisky is inextricably linked to Masataka Taketsuru, a chemist who travelled to Scotland to master authentic malt-spirit techniques. By founding the first domestic whisky distillery upon his return, he shaped the technical direction that continues to guide Japanese producers today.

How it is produced

The character of Akashi Whisky Blended is achieved by integrating single malt and grain distillates for optimal structure. The spirit then undergoes ageing in American oak casks, establishing its signature sweet and spicy aromatic profile. A defining feature is its limited production volume, resulting from a restricted operational schedule. The dedicated distillation stills run for only one month each year, ensuring every batch retains a vigorous and distinctly developed character.

History and Heritage

Founded in Akashi, Japan, in 1888, the historic White Oak Distillery originally produced sake before pioneering whisky production. Today, this exceptional Japanese blended whisky is highly prized by connoisseurs for its remarkable rarity, as the dedicated stills operate for just one month each year.

From this winery
The history of the Japanese Whiskey is closely connected to that of the young chemistry student Masataka Taketsuru who, after the First World War, went to Scotland to learn the method of producing malt spirits.

On his return, Taketsuru decided to found the Nikka distillery, now renowned for the high quality of malt distillates it produces. Although Taketsuru is considered the father of the Japanese Whiskey, it is however important to remember that he was not the first to distill Whiskey in the Land of the Rising Sun. In fact, in fact, the "White Oak Distillery", founded back in 1888, began producing Whiskey, albeit in small quantities, as early as 1919.

In 1984, then, with the construction of a new and modern factory, the "White Oak Distillery", located in the city of Akashi and now belonging to the Eigashima company, has become one of the most important Japanese distilleries that produces malt whiskey.
