The Domaine de Tholomies has a very rich and ancient history, thanks in particular to to the exceptional succession of owners through the centuries. The first traces visible from the Abbey of Tholomies are Roman. The discovery of a well in the wine storehouse at barrels testify to this. The Visigoths then occupied the site, around the 4th century.
A written document, dating from 977, attests to its existence and cites the "Domaine de Tolomiano" as property of the Viscountess of Narbonne. She then ceded it to the clergyman who completed the construction of the Abbey in the year 997. Religious wars dating back to of the beginning of the first millennium make the history of the estate a little murky, which is now under Cathar domination then Templar domination... The emblematic characters follow one another... over the centuries.
