Description
Taurasi is a red wine whose earliest records date back to Greek times. It is made from Aglianico grapes, which the Romans called Hellenico to emphasize its Greek origins. It is produced in the province of Avellino in the territory of seventeen municipalities, centered in Taurasi, from which it takes its name. It is therefore a DOCG red wine from the Campania region. Taurasi Feudi San Gregorio is produced in the Piano di Montevergine vineyard, whose name recalls the most important sanctuary in the province. Taurasi is an intense ruby red wine that takes on light orange hues as it ages. When young, it is an excellent wine for all meals, but it can also withstand long aging without losing its qualities; indeed, its finesse sublimates over time. It must age at least three years before being released for consumption: for this reason, the Feudi San Gregorio winery ages it for 18 months in barrels and then for two years in bottle for final refinement. The cultivation takes place in an area where hazelnut and olive trees grow, and this naturally influences the flavor of the resulting wine. The aroma of Taurasi is fruity, reminiscent of berries and blackberries, while its flavor is dry and pleasantly aromatic.
