Description
What kind of wine it is
Piano di Montevergine Taurasi by Feudi di San Gregorio is a red wine with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin from Campania, made from Aglianico grapes, fermented in steel and aged in barrels. It presents an intense ruby red colour, while its complex aromatic profile releases notes of blackberry, plum and black cherry enriched by balsamic and spicy hints. On the palate, it is dry and enveloping, supported by elegant tannins and a pleasant mineral savouriness that accompanies a long and persistent finish. This expression of Aglianico is perfect for pairing with structured first courses and meat-based main dishes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the province of Avellino, at the heart of the Taurasi area. The grapes come from the historic Piano di Montevergine vineyard, a symbolic plot for the winery that takes its name from the famous local sanctuary. In Sorbo Serpico, the vines grow integrated into a unique landscape, surrounded by hazelnut groves and olive groves. This particular agricultural coexistence positively influences the taste of the wine, giving it a strong territorial connection and making it an authentic expression of its place of origin.
How it is produced
Production begins with alcoholic fermentation and maceration on the skins in steel tanks for about three or four weeks, extracting colour and structure. Subsequently, the wine matures for a period between eighteen and twenty-four months in French oak barrels, favouring a medium toasting. This stage is fundamental to impart roundness and promote the perfect integration of aromas. The process concludes with a prolonged bottle ageing of two years, essential to harmonise the overall balance and ensure the wine's excellent capacity for evolution over time.
