Description

What kind of wine it is

Alto Adige Chardonnay by Elena Walch is a fresh and elegant white wine with a Denomination of Controlled Origin. Produced in the Trentino-Alto Adige region from Chardonnay grapes, it stands out for its fruity bouquet with notes of pineapple, banana and hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it offers a pleasant roundness, balanced by a lively acidic backbone that leads to a clean finish with interesting persistence. The winemaking process involves fermentation and ageing in stainless steel tanks to preserve its natural fragrance.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the Alto Adige area, on limestone soils facing south-east at up to six hundred metres above sea level. The vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate, where warm summer days meet the cool breezes from the Dolomites. The alternation between daytime warmth and crisp night air allows the vines to thrive: this constant temperature variation encourages gradual ripening, ensuring healthy grapes of great finesse.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the Chardonnay bunches undergo a gentle pressing. The must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by ageing on fine lees also in steel for several months. This process gives the wine greater texture while preserving its natural fragrance.

History and Curiosities

Born from the passion of the Elena Walch family, who helped lead the region's quality revolution, this Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC boasts fascinating origins. The grapes ripen on limestone soils at altitudes of up to 600 metres, benefiting from the fresh mountain air of the Dolomites. Among the most notable facts is its recognition as a multi-award-winning wine by international critics, with high scores from James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.
