Description

What kind of wine it is

Sancerre Les Chasseignes by Claude Riffault is a biodynamic white wine from the Loire with a crisp and elegant profile. Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes fermented in vats and barrels, it displays a bright pale yellow colour with aromas of fresh fruit and floral notes. The palate reveals excellent persistence, enlivened by a fruity character and fine spicy nuances. Praised by international critics, it offers an ideal balance to enhance lean fish, sushi, and cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in France, in the Loire Valley, within the renowned Sancerre area. The vineyards are trained using the Guyot method with excellent south-east exposure. Claude Riffault follows strict biodynamic practices, managing the soil through ploughing and integrating grazing. Maintaining ground cover between the rows protects the local flora and stimulates the natural vitality of the land. This approach aims to guarantee the pure expression of the terroir, delivering a glass that is consistent with the identity of its place of origin.

How it is produced

The winemaking process preserves the integrity of the bunches, beginning with a careful manual harvest. This is followed by a prolonged pneumatic pressing, a delicate step to purely extract the aromatic components. Alcoholic fermentation takes place harmoniously between vats and wood, adding depth to the structure. The cycle concludes with an eight-month maturation divided between vats and barrels, an essential period to blend the fruity base with soft spicy notes, resulting in a rounded and expertly balanced sip.

History and Curiosities

This excellent Sancerre AOC from Domaine Claude Riffault expresses the authentic essence of Loire Sauvignon Blanc. The result of rigorous biodynamic cultivation, the grapes come from south-east facing vines and are carefully hand-picked. The expert vinification, characterised by prolonged pressing and eight months of ageing, gives the wine extraordinary persistence. Awarded 95 points by Robert Parker, this wine enchants with aromas of fresh fruit and floral notes, revealing on the palate a fruity character enhanced by elegant spicy nuances.

Vine cultivation is essential for obtaining fine and precise wines. As careful winegrowers, our role is to maintain the best possible balance between soil and plant according to the climate. The company's 13.5-hectare vineyard consists of 10.5 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 3 hectares of Pinot Noir in about 6 locations north of Sancerre.

The soil is ploughed and grazed. A vegetal cover, controlled between the rows, preserves the flora and activates soil life. The work of pruning, sprouting and trellising is rigorous.

This technique makes it possible to regulate production and aerate the vegetation and the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness and health. After manual harvesting, the sorting guarantees the respect and integrity of the grapes until pressing (White and Rosé) or in the vat (Red). Thus, vinification and ageing take place in a simple but precise manner.
