Description
What kind of wine is it
Furia di Calafuria is a still rosé wine from Salento produced by Tormaresca. This blend combines Negroamaro, Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes to create a glass with a peach blossom pink colour. The nose reveals intense fruity notes of peach, pink grapefruit and pomegranate, accompanied by delicate floral hints of wisteria. On the palate, it is smooth and juicy, supported by a pleasant freshness and a long citrusy persistence, making it ideal to pair with seafood pasta dishes and raw fish.
Where does it come from
It originates from the Masseria Maìme estate, in Upper Salento near San Pietro Vernotico. The coastal vineyards stretch for over a kilometre along the Adriatic side, nestled between woods and pine forests that slope down towards the sea. The proximity to the coast enriches the grapes with a delicate savouriness, defining a dynamic and satisfying sip. The constant action of the sea breeze shapes the character of the wine, ensuring excellent freshness and a clear mineral trail.
How is it produced
The process begins with a rigorous manual harvest, followed by destemming and gentle pressing. The must rests in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to encourage natural clarification. The temperature-controlled fermentation helps to preserve and enhance the fragrant aromas of the grapes. Finally, the wine undergoes a period of ageing on the lees in steel, acquiring roundness and balance while maintaining its vibrancy.
History and Curiosities
Furia di Calafuria embodies the passion of the Antinori family for Apulia and was born at the Masseria Maìme estate, in Upper Salento. Overlooking the enchanting Adriatic coast, amidst woods and pine forests, the vines benefit from the influence of the sea to create a refined Apulian rosé. Tormaresca thus enhances the tradition of Negroamaro, celebrating the identity of the region and the beauty of the Salento bays. The elegance of this project, launched in 1999, is demonstrated by significant achievements such as the 3 Bibenda Grapes, 89 Decanter points and the 3 AIS Vines.
