Description
The sunny Cilento coast is the ideal terroir for growing the prized Fiano, the grape variety chosen by the Tempa di Zoe winery to create the Asterias Fiano white wine. And the success of this wine certainly comes as no surprise. Suffice it to say that the winery was founded by four outstanding figures in Campanian viticulture: Bruno De Conciliis, Antonio Capaldo, Francesco Domini, and Winny D'Orta. Nestled between the Mediterranean and the Alburni mountains, the vineyards enjoy a mild, temperate climate year-round thanks to the soothing action of precious sea breezes. The sea also influences the composition of the soil: the "Cilentan Flysh" originates from millennia-old underwater orogenic movements. Alkaline, siliceous, and sandy, it gives strength and character to Asterias Fiano; the underlying clay drains water, preventing harmful stagnation. Therefore, we are not in the presence of a volcanic territory: this contributes to making the Fiano del Cilento more flavorful and fruity than the one produced in Irpinia. The blend is composed of 100% Fiano berries subjected to soft pressing before being left to ferment in steel tanks. It is the subsequent maturation in oak barrels that confers the organoleptic richness that is one of the greatest qualities of Asterias Fiano. Of the 11 months required, in fact, at least 40% spends in 10 hl barrels. The wine thus "breathes", exchanges oxygen and aromas with the wood and the external environment and acquires the persistence, structure and character that make this excellent still white wine a living expression of its territory.
