Description

What type of wine it is

Sella & Mosca’s Cannonau di Sardegna Medeus is a still red wine that offers a faithful and structured interpretation of its appellation. On the nose, the bouquet expresses bold aromas of red fruit jam, Mediterranean scrub and violet, enriched by balsamic nuances, spices and light hints of roasted coffee. The tasting reveals a full-bodied, fresh and savoury palate, in which soft tannins accompany fruity notes with delicate citrus hints. The experience concludes with a long and harmonious finish, characterised by a pleasant and typical slightly bitter undertone.

Where it comes from

The Cannonau grapes originate from the historic Sella & Mosca estate, located near Alghero. The vineyards extend near the sea on warm and sandy soils, ventilated by the Grecale wind, a crucial element for imparting a marked savouriness to the wine. The spur-pruned cordon training system and rigorous agronomic management keep yields low. The fifteen-year-old vines, planted at high density, ensure optimal fruit ripening, thus guaranteeing a constant taste balance and excellent structure.

How it is produced

Production begins with fifteen days of maceration and fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature to preserve the primary aromas of the Cannonau. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which gives the palate a rounder texture. Ageing takes place over several months using steel, casks and concrete, harmonising structure and freshness. To fully enhance the potential of this wine, one hour of decanting is recommended, with a service temperature between fourteen and sixteen degrees, ideal for accompanying grilled meats, game and savoury first courses.

History and Curiosities

Born in Alghero on the historic Sella & Mosca estate, founded in 1899, Medeus embodies the island's deep oenological passion. This 2025 Cannonau di Sardegna DOC comes to life from vines buffeted by the Grecale wind on warm sandy soils near the sea, faithfully reflecting the coastal landscape. Under the guidance of oenologist Giovanni Pinna, the wine offers an expressive interpretation of the territory's symbolic grape variety. Highly appreciated by the public with a score of 4.82, it celebrates authentic Sardinian heritage.
