Description

Pignocco Lacrima di Morro d'Alba is born in the Marche, a land rich in great wineries beloved by connoisseurs throughout the peninsula and beyond. Fresh and fruity, this still red is made from a single-varietal blend, composed of 100% Lacrima. Lacrima is a rare native grape variety of the Marche region with a very ancient history, so ancient that it is still difficult to identify the true origin of its name. According to some, it is due to the teardrop shape of the grape, according to others, to the characteristic exudation of droplets from the ripe fruit that resemble tears. Sensitive to parasites, animals, and phytoplasma diseases, it requires good sunlight and ventilation to grow optimally, which makes cultivation quite complex. It favors medium-textured soil and a double-arched spurred cordon training system. Vinification takes place for a week in steel tanks at a strictly controlled temperature, never exceeding 24°C. All this has led this wine to be classified as DOC Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. Born from the Santa Barbara winery, a lively company in the Marche region that takes its name from the patron saint of the village of Barbara, the Pignocco Lacrima di Morro d'Alba boasts a list of awards that grows every year; excellent prospects for a wine whose importance on the international scene is constantly growing.

The name Santa Barbara pays homage to our land, our tradition and those we worship. The history of this place dates back to the 6th century when Senigallia was a Byzantine city and a Lombardic (and therefore "barbarian") outpost was
set up in a nearby village. Since then, that village took the name of Barbara which is where our winery is located today, having the privilege of being housed in an old monastery.

Our winery is located 25 km from the Adriatic Sea and is located on the hills that run between the Misa and Nevola rivers. Here a team of professionals works in the winery and vineyards every day, fuelled by passion, determination and a pinch of creativity so that our grapes maintain their beauty and express the quality of our land.
