Description

What kind of wine it is

Talò Malvasia Nera Salento by San Marzano is a still red wine that interprets the viticultural identity of Puglia. Produced from Malvasia Nera di Brindisi grapes, this Salento protected geographical indication wine ferments in steel and ages in French oak barrels, showing an intense ruby red colour enriched by violet reflections. The nose reveals a generous and complex bouquet, characterised by ripe aromas of blackberry and black cherry, combined with notes of vanilla and light hints of rosemary. On the palate, it is enveloping and warm, with a medium-bodied structure supported by soft and well-polished tannins that accompany the drink towards a long and persistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from trellis-trained vineyards, located at about one hundred metres above sea level between San Marzano di San Giuseppe and the territories of Brindisi. The vines take root in shallow, clayey soil, made well-draining by sand and a rich stony component. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry, constantly cooled and mitigated by sea breezes, guarantees optimal ripening of the bunches. These pedoclimatic conditions give the wine excellent aromatic concentration and a markedly juicy character.

How it is produced

The harvest takes place in the second half of September, selecting the bunches at the perfect stage of ripeness. In the cellar, steel fermentation and controlled-temperature maceration on the skins for about ten days are carried out. The wine then ages in French oak barrels for a period of four to six months, completing its evolution with a rest in the bottle. This process enhances the characteristics of the grape variety, achieving perfect expressive harmony, ideal for pairing with roasted meats, game, and mature cheeses.

History and trivia

Talò is the sincere tribute from Cantine San Marzano to the families who tend to the vineyards like gardens. The collection celebrates historical Puglian grape varieties, enhancing the authenticity of Salento IGP. The 2025 vintage highlights Malvasia Nera di Brindisi in its pure form, a native grape variety with a delicate touch that, from being a simple supporting player to Negroamaro, has today become a proud protagonist. Awarded 94 points by Luca Maroni, this enveloping red offers a territorial expression of absolute excellence.

Through the decades this coooperative has grown significantly, attracting over 1,200 vine growers, using modern and technologically advanced plants and producing elegant wines without forgetting the obligation to the very old Apulian wine tradition.

Nowadays the fusion of time honoured tradition, passion and sensibility with contemporary techniques enables us to produce wines with distinctive varietal and regional characters, marvellously reflecting individual attention, seasonal variation and local terroir.
