Description

What kind of wine it is

Roagna Barbaresco Gallina is an elegant still red wine that precisely interprets the character of Nebbiolo. On the palate, it offers a warm and full sip, supported by refined tannins that accompany a structured and persistent drink. Its complex and defined nature is designed to evolve beautifully over time, maintaining its gustatory balance. In the glass, it displays a typical ruby red hue enhanced by garnet reflections, introducing a complex aromatic profile.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in Piedmont, in the Neive area, within the historic Gallina geographical mention of Barbaresco. The vineyards are rooted in clay-limestone soil with a significant sandy component, characteristics that give Nebbiolo finesse and definition. This terroir imparts a multifaceted olfactory range to the wine, dominated by notes of ripe wild berries and lavender. The bouquet is enriched with menthol notes, balsamic hints of cinnamon and cloves, Sichuan pepper, finishing with scents of dry leaves, porcini mushroom and a distinct mineral note.

How it is produced

Production begins with manual harvesting at perfect physiological ripeness, followed by a double selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats for about ten days, triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts prepared using pied de cuve. The process continues with a prolonged submerged cap maceration, essential for extracting polyphenolic substances with great balance. Finally, the long maturation takes place in neutral oak barrels and cement tanks, containers specifically chosen to respect the authentic expression of the fruit without overpowering it with overly pronounced tertiary aromas.

History and Curiosities

The Barbaresco Gallina 2020 by Roagna expresses the extraordinary finesse of Nebbiolo, cultivated in the prized clay-limestone and sandy soils of the historic Neive designation. The utmost care in the vineyard is reflected in manual harvesting and a double, rigorous selection of the grape bunches. Faithfulness to tradition is evident in the use of indigenous yeasts, the classic submerged cap maceration, and a lengthy maturation in neutral oak barrels and cement. On the palate, it is an elegant red with a warm, full sip and refined tannins.

The true heritage of the Roagna family vineyards are the old vines. Plants that are at least 50 years old, in some cases even up to 80 years old. Vines that continue to produce few grapes but of high quality. Care and attention is dedicated to this heritage in the various estate vineyards between the Barbaresco and Barolo areas, in order to obtain a final product of the highest level.

Wines that fully express terroir, in the true sense of the term, where the grape variety and its place claim recognisability and authenticity in the glass. This is the desire of Alfredo and Luca Roagna.
