Description

Secondine is one of the most relevant historical zones of Barbaresco. The area is located at the foot of Tanaro river valley and the production zone of Pajé. Secondine was recognized by Lorenzo Fantini in 1879, then mentioned by Renato Ratti in his map of Barbaresco published in 1984. The loamy soil makes this area perfect for the production of Barbaresco. Prunotto’s Secondine represents a profound interpretation of the Nebbiolo grape, characterized by an exceptional elegance and distinguished by round and velvety tannins in its structure.

Alfredo Prunotto, a renowned winemaker who worked for the most prestigious wineries of the time, took over in 1923, the Cooperative Winery 'Vini delle Langhe' established in Alba in 1904, which was in difficulty after the First World War.

The Prunotto winery, thanks to the great passion of Alfredo and his wife, soon became famous, exporting its wines all over the world.

In 1956, Alfredo Prunotto retired from the business and sold the company to his friend Beppe Colla, assisted first by Carlo Filiberti and then by his brother Tino Colla, who carried on the winery with the same love.
In 1972, the company expanded and moved to its current premises outside Alba.

In 1989, the Tuscan wine house Antinori took over the company, initially dealing with distribution and then, in 1995, with the retirement of the Colla brothers, also directly with production, maintaining the high quality desired by Alfredo Prunotto.
