Description

What kind of wine is it

Burdese is an organic red wine from Sicily, produced by the Planeta winery, created from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Made in the Menfi area, it displays an intense ruby red colour. On the palate, it boasts a dense and important tannic structure, combined with a flavour focused on ripe, rich fruit. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet, where blueberry and cherries in spirit blend with hints of leather, gradually revealing notes of cocoa, iodine and rosemary.

Where does it come from

The roots of this red wine lie between the territories of Menfi and Sambuca di Sicilia. The grapes come from two selected vineyards characterised by complementary soils. The Dispensa estate stands out for its medium-depth soils with a moderately calcareous matrix, almost free of stones. The Maroccoli plot, located at altitude, instead features a clay soil rich in stones and silt fraction. This diversity gives the wine concentration and a marked longevity, allowing it to evolve beautifully over time.

How is it produced

The vinification process begins with destemming and crushing, followed by a twenty-one day maceration on the skins to extract colour and structure. After racking, the wine matures for fourteen months in new Allier oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation takes place between wood and steel, giving stability and elegance. To enhance its complexity, a one-hour decanting is recommended, making it the perfect companion for meat stews, game and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The name Burdese refers to the local dialect term for “bordolese”, celebrating the classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown under the Sicilian sun. This prestigious red Menfi DOC, crafted by the Planeta winery, boasts a powerful structure and a dense tannic texture. Aged for 14 months in new Allier oak barriques, it releases a complex bouquet of maraschino cherry, cocoa and leather. An outstanding wine produced in limited quantities, it is capable of ageing magnificently, offering a rich and enveloping sip.
