Description

What kind of wine it is

Orma Toscana is a still organic red wine produced by Podere Orma. It is a refined blend that combines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, offering a typical and profound expression of Tuscany. In the glass, it reveals a purple-red colour with violet highlights, which anticipates a bouquet of wild berries enhanced by spices and subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, the entry is soft and velvety, supported by pronounced notes of sweet ripe fruit that maintain an enveloping, dynamic and persistent profile. It pairs ideally with game dishes or cuts of braised meat.

Where it comes from

Orma Toscana originates in the Bolgheri area, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The estate's vineyards benefit from a mild climate and excellent sun exposure, both fundamental for the perfect ripening of the grapes. The vines are grown on clay and pebbly soils, characterised by a low sand content, a geological matrix that gives the wine significant structure and a distinctive softness. This is a limited production, achieved through controlled yields to maximise the organoleptic properties of each bunch.

How it is produced

The production process begins with vinification involving a prolonged maceration for eighteen days, followed by fermentation. Subsequently, the wine matures in French oak barrels for a period ranging from fourteen to eighteen months. This extended contact with wood is essential to define the structural texture and promote a harmonious integration of the aromatic components. The process concludes with a further refinement in the bottle for about a year, a crucial step to stabilise the sensory profile and ensure a satisfying, persistent and highly precise taste experience.

History and Curiosities

Born in Bolgheri, Orma Toscana 2022 represents the elegant oenological gem of Podere Orma. On an estate of just seven hectares, the intuition of Antonio Moretti Cuseri has given rise to a sumptuous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This exclusive limited edition of around a thousand bottles embodies the richness of a clay and pebbly soil. Awarded by James Suckling and Decanter, this exceptional organic red wine combines mastery and enveloping smoothness, delivering in the glass the most authentic essence of the Maremma.

Antonio Moretti Cuseri, a wine enthusiast and cultivator of beauty, was drawn to this area considered a virtual genius loci. He decided to leave his mark here too, creating a wine that perfectly reflected the excellence of the Bolgheri growing area. In October 2004, he was driving back from Montalcino, when he had an epiphany. After travelling through a long stretch of dense fog hovering over the landscape, he was suddenly surprised by the light of the sun. A special light that instantly burned off the fog. He ended up on the Maremma road that would lead him to Bolgheri. A paradise. And he had no doubts about the investment either.

Orma is located on the Bolgherese Provincial Road, a Wine Road, just a short distance from the most historic vineyards in the area. The heart of the Bolgheri DOC appellation, with Ornellaia on the right and Sassicaia to the left. It is indeed the area most suited to vine cultivation: north of Via Bolgherese, where rocky, clay-rich soils prevail over the sandier soils found nearer to the sea. The area enjoys a favorable combination of climate, soil, and grape varieties, which make it an "ecological-climatic niche."
