Description
What type of wine it is
The Primitivo di Manduria Heracles wine is produced by Masseria Surani in Puglia. It is a still red wine made exclusively from Primitivo grapes, an authentic expression of the prestigious Primitivo di Manduria designation. Its profile is full-bodied, broad, and fruity, supported by well-refined tannins and a lively finish. The aromas range from elegant floral notes of violet to the rich fruitiness of sour cherry, black cherry, and strawberry, on a balsamic and aromatic herb background, ideal for pairing with grilled meats and hearty soups. Its excellent freshness is enhanced through expert winemaking and a long rest in oak barrels.
Where it comes from
The grapes used for this label come from the Manduria estates, located in the historic Salento area of Puglia. The vineyards are cultivated using the Guyot training system and are rooted in unique limestone soils, known for being extremely rich in iron. This specific soil composition plays a decisive role in the development of the wine's profile, providing a distinct and pleasant freshness on the palate. The area's geological imprint also helps to enhance the deep and fascinating intense ruby red colour that is clearly visible in the glass.
How it is produced
The production process begins in the cellar with a careful phase of crushing and de-stemming the clusters. Next, the crucial steps of maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation are carried out, which are fundamental technical methods for the optimal extraction of aromas and for the correct definition of the structure. Following these initial processes, the wine matures through a long ageing period of fifteen months in oak barrels. This prolonged resting phase in wood allows the tannic texture to soften and integrate perfectly, giving greater balance and complexity to the final result.

In Puglia the Tommasi decide to focus all on the territory of Manduria, hot and sunny and near the Ionian coast of Salento that every year attracts thousands of tourists: here the vines are cultivated Fiano, Primitivo, Negroamaro, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay , all interpreted in a modern way, with high density per hectare and low yields, and vinified instead by following the standards of the local tradition.
The wines take back this concept of heritage by labeling names that refer to the Greek gods: this year tasting the Arthemis and Heracles, obtained from the two cultivars that most represent the winemaking heritage of Masseria Surani, the Fiano (10 hectares) and the Primitivo (30 hectares).
