Description
What type of wine it is
The Taber Lagrein Riserva from Kellerei Bozen is a red wine of great structure, an authentic expression of the Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva appellation. Produced from Lagrein grapes fermented in wood and aged in barrels, it offers a deep bouquet where hints of cherry and forest fruits combine with elegant floral notes of rose and violet, while earthy nuances of humus, balsamic hints of eucalyptus, and spicy notes of cocoa, tobacco, and vanilla complete its sensory profile. On the palate, it is powerful and enveloping, supported by a vibrant freshness and silky tannins that prolong its persistence. It pairs ideally with braised red meats, game, truffle-based dishes, and long-aged cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in Gries, on the outskirts of Bolzano, from the historic vines of the Taberhof vineyard. Located at an altitude of approximately two hundred and fifty metres, the soils are of alluvial origin, warm and sandy. The microclimate of the Bolzano basin guarantees sunny days alternating with cool nights; these marked temperature fluctuations favour the aromatic concentration of the clusters and define the wine's intense colour. Kellerei Bozen masterfully enhances this unique terroir, precisely interpreting the pedoclimatic characteristics of the valley floor.
How it is produced
After a careful selection of the grapes during the harvest, the must undergoes a skilful fermentation in wood. The subsequent ageing lasts for about a year, using French oak barrels of various sizes. This slow rest allows the noble tannins to integrate with the richness of the fruit, giving the wine a velvety texture and a finish of great elegance. The technical care dedicated to every stage ensures a significant ageing potential, allowing this reserve to evolve and refine gracefully for about ten years.
History and Trivia
The Lagrein Riserva Taber from Kellerei Bozen, an excellence of South Tyrol, originates in Gries, near Bolzano, in the historic Taberhof vineyard from vines over 80 years old. The winery, founded in 1908, vinifies these fine grapes through fermentation in wood and one year of ageing in French barriques and large barrels. This meticulous care ensures a potential for evolution in the bottle of about ten years, preserved by the use of natural cork. The 2022 vintage confirms its reputation with the prestigious Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso.
