Description

Feudi San Gregorio Fiano di Avellino Pietracalda is a very structured still white wine produced in the Irpinia region, in the heart of the Campanian Apennines. Irpinia is a historic winemaking area where the vines share this harsh terrain with fruit trees and centuries-old olive groves. Despite being in Campania, this area has a very different microclimate from the rest of the region; it is often windy and rains frequently but regularly. Furthermore, being a succession of hills and mountains, winters are harsh, albeit short. The Feudi San Gregori vineyards are in Sorbo Serpico, about an hour from Naples and Vesuvius, and the soil is rich in clay, which can make up up to 50% of the soil's total composition. Clay is a very important element in grape cultivation as it naturally counteracts the drought of the hot season and maintains the acidity of the grapes. Pietracalda is a wine produced from 100% Fiano grapes, brought to Italy by the Greeks, and is classified as DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, or Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin), meaning all the winemaking and bottling processes take place in the province of Avellino. Harvest takes place in mid-September, and the winemaking process involves maturation for approximately 4 or 5 months on the lees and repeated batonnage to resuspend the fine sediment resulting from fermentation.

The Feudi di San Gregorio winery, was founded in 1986 in the town of Sorbo Serpico in the hills of Irpinia and today is one of the symbolic brands of the wine renaissance in southern Italy. The initial 30 hectares of vineyards in Sorbo Serpico have been joined by others in the municipalities of Taurasi, Tufo and Santa Paolina, bringing the total to over 300 hectares of vineyards today, which benefit from the immense properties of the volcanic soil and a climate characterised by significant temperature excursions that enrich the olfactory bouquet of Feudi San Gregorio wines. Feudi San Gregorio stands out for the production of wines such as: Taurasi, Greco di Tufo, Fiano, Falanghina and Rubrato, all from indigenous vines and made with respect for the terroir. Tradition and innovation come together in the Feudi San Gregorio winery, with spaces and shapes that are particular to the place, housing a large barrique cellar that also aims to impose itself as a place of refreshment where new ideas can be discussed and brought to life. Xtrawine offers you a wide selection ofFeudi di San Gregorio wines from Aglianico to Greco di Tufo to rosé sparkling wines, only from the best vintages of 2012 and 2017. The Feudi San Gregorio wines featured on Xtrawine are the perfect choice to pair with meat dishes, shellfish, fish but also desserts. The Guida Berebene 2022 of the Gambero Rosso awarded the Quality-Price Award to two top wines: Irpinia Aglianico DOC Visione 2020 and Basilisco Aglianico del Vulture DOC Teodosio 2019.
