Description

What kind of wine is it

Egly Ouriet Coteaux Champenois Ambonnay Rouge Cuvée des Grands Côtes, crafted by Egly-Ouriet, is a still red that expresses the most authentic soul of the Coteaux Champenois area. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it stands out for its vibrant ruby red colour. On the nose, it releases intense aromas of red fruits, leading to a complex, deep and mineral palate. Recommended after a brief decanting, it pairs perfectly with white meats, pork and mature cheeses.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in the beating heart of Ambonnay, a renowned Grand Cru of Champagne, extending to the prized plots of Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. The superior quality of the fruit comes from old vines over forty years old, cultivated on chalky soils. These soils reflect sunlight during the day and release warmth at night, ensuring optimal drainage and balanced ripening. Such geological features give the wine a distinct mineral character and an extremely elegant flavour profile.

How is it produced

The production philosophy is based on organic and sustainable viticulture, aimed at protecting the integrity of the land. To preserve its natural profile, the wine is not subjected to fining or filtration. The extremely limited production is managed with meticulous care to respect the purity of the raw material. This artisanal dedication results in extraordinary flavour complexity and a remarkable ability to evolve for over twenty years, allowing the wine to mature gracefully over time.

History and Curiosities

The Cuvée des Grands Côtes by Egly-Ouriet is an authentic expression of Champagne, produced in Ambonnay from 100% Pinot Noir. To enhance the essence of the terroir, the 2023 vintage is the result of an organic and sustainable approach. A Champagne that represents its terroir: the vine and soil are found throughout this wine, thanks to old vines, a few winemaker's secrets and modern technology. Egly-Ouriet produces champagne only with grapes from its 11.5 hectares company's vineyards, the most important of which are in Ambonnay, the home of Pinot Noir, the others in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Quality begins on this particular soil, made up of layers of chalk that reflect the sun's rays and release heat to the vines at night, allowing excess water to be absorbed and giving the grapes a particularly mineral taste.
