Description

What kind of wine it is

Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Egly-Ouriet is made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Produced using the Traditional Method, it stands out for its straw yellow colour and a fine, persistent perlage. The bouquet is complex, characterised by enveloping fruity aromas and clear notes of yeast. On the palate, it is fresh, rich and distinctly mineral, offering a deep flavour profile, ideal for accompanying starters, fish dishes, shellfish and cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the villages of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, located in the heart of Champagne. The vines are rooted in chalky soils that reflect sunlight and retain heat, giving the wine a pronounced mineral character. Egly-Ouriet cultivates the plots following a organic and sustainable approach, respecting the natural rhythms of the plants. The origin from these Grand Cru terroirs ensures a sip of great complexity, capable of expressing the most authentic essence of the region.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels, carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts and without any filtration, thus preserving the natural structure of the must. After the prise de mousse, the long ageing of 48 months on the lees enriches the Champagne with extraordinary aromatic complexity and refines its tactile profile. The Extra Brut dosage guarantees a dry and linear sip, enhancing the purity and distinctive character of the wine.

History and Curiosities

A sublime expression from the Egly-Ouriet house, this Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut from the 2018 vintage encapsulates the essence of the chalky soils of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. The result of organic practices, fermentation takes place in oak barrels using indigenous yeasts and without filtration, thus preserving the authenticity of the must. The elegant 48-month maturation on the lees and minimal dosage impart a profound aromatic complexity and a mineral freshness of rare excellence, acclaimed by international wine critics.

A Champagne that represents its terroir: the vine and soil are found throughout this wine, thanks to old vines, a few winemaker's secrets and modern technology. Egly-Ouriet produces champagne only with grapes from its 11.5 hectares company's vineyards, the most important of which are in Ambonnay, the home of Pinot Noir, the others in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Quality begins on this particular soil, made up of layers of chalk that reflect the sun's rays and release heat to the vines at night, allowing excess water to be absorbed and giving the grapes a particularly mineral taste.
