Description
A still red from Piedmont, a Barbera d'Alba DOC, 14.5% ABV, produced by Cogno. 2022 vintage, 0.75L bottle. A wine made from a pre-phylloxera vineyard, a veritable open-air museum of ancient viticulture. The aromas are enveloping, harmonious, and profound, with evident spicy notes at first and fruity notes of raspberry, strawberry, and ripe cherry. Pleasant harmonies of wildflowers on the finish. Dark, brilliant ruby red with intense purple reflections. On the palate, the wine is well-structured, fresh, with excellent acidity and great balance, featuring enveloping tannins and flavors reminiscent of black cherry, blackberry, and plum. A wine that pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, braised meats, and aged cheeses.

The Cogno Winery produces the principle wines of the Langhe. The winery owns about fifteen hectares of vineyard property in Novello, one of eleven townships in the province of Cuneo in which Barolo DOCG production is allowed.
The hills are world-renowned for their history, culture, and beauty, and they were recently recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage.
In the footsteps of its founder Elvio Cogno, today Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore direct the winery with four generations of winemakers and vine growers, dedicated to obtaining excellence that begins with the unique terroir to create wines that are famous throughout the world for their elegance, texture, and balance. | Story | Produced in one of the last archaic vineyards of the Langa, an open-air museum of the viticulture of yesteryear, over 100 years old, the grapes come from plants that have not been grafted and propagated by cuttings, which have therefore maintained intact over the decades all the original characteristics of Barbera. The vineyard, with excellent exposure and sandy-calcareous soils, located in Frazione Berri di La Morra, guarantees the natural protection of the vines from the Filloxera attack and gives the product an exclusive and unique look, which blends with intriguing simplicity the most typical suggestions of the vine with the characteristics given by a particularly favourable microclimate and altitude. The very low production per hectare guarantees an organoleptic concentration of rare intensity and richness, for a wine that is matured in oak barrels suitable for the slow development of primary aromas. Pleasant and refined, complex even when enjoyed young, it is a product that does not fear bottle ageing, expressing its concrete uniqueness even after many years. |
