Description
Gewurztraminer is a wine product from Alto Adige, an aromatic still white wine with a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC). Produced in the cellar of the Augustinian monks Abbazia di Novacella, this wine is the fruit of highly aromatic berries. The vines, grown between the Bressanone, Varna and Naz Sciaves areas and trained using the Guyot system, are planted on gravelly, loamy and sandy soil at an altitude ranging from 600 to 700 meters above sea level. The vines, characterized by the rows' south and southwest exposure, enjoy warm daytime temperatures and cool nights. It is precisely the unique microclimate, along with that of the soil, that gives the fruit its distinctive aroma. The white Gewurztraminer is made from a pure Traminer Aromatico blend. The grapes, during the harvest in October, are carefully selected and then harvested. They are then subjected to a soft pressing, after which the must undergoes an alcoholic fermentation process in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of 20°C. Subsequently, still in stainless steel tanks, it undergoes an aging process for a minimum of 6 months. After this period, the wine is bottled and released to the market. The result is a white wine of the highest quality, characterized by its intense aroma. A structured, balanced, elegant, and engaging wine. A successful wine that is well-received by industry critics both nationally and internationally.

Also owned by the Abbey is a vineyard located in South Tyrol's main wine-growing area: the Marklhof estate in Cornaiano, on the 'wine road' near Bolzano. The sandy, dry soil and the airy climate of these hills make it possible to obtain excellent red wines, including a characteristic Kalterersee, a very fine Schiava and a very elegant Pinot Noir.
A third Novacella vineyard is located in Bolzano, around the ancient and tiny St. Mary's Monastery. Here, in the dry and very warm climate of the valley floor, a full-bodied dark Lagrein matures, which is particularly suitable for ageing.
In our wine cellar, the grapes from these three vineyards are raised to wines whose distinct character and quality has been rewarded by the loyalty of generations of friends and connoisseurs. Read more
