The Villa Rovere estate lies at the foot of Terra del Sole, an ideal city founded in the 16th century by Cosimo de' Medici as a model of Renaissance architectural perfection, on the ancient road from Forlì to Florence. Enclosed between the course of the Montone River and the Canale dei Mulini and surrounded by lush vegetation, the vineyard extends over 6 hectares on recent alluvial soil consisting of sand, silt and gravel.
In the middle of the vineyard, there is a small natural lake that encourages the development of insects and animals, which are essential to keeping the ecosystem alive and varied. With a density of 5,000 plants per hectare trained by the spurred cordon system, the polyclonal and polyvarietal vineyard is enclosed in a natural closet, isolated from the surrounding vegetation by streams and rows of trees.
The training system for the red grape varieties is the spurred cordon system, while the Guyot system was chosen for the Sauvignon Blanc. Agronomic management is based on maximum respect for the environment, using integrated pest management. Green pruning and thinning out allow for optimal phenolic and technological ripening of the bunches.
After a careful selection during the manual harvesting phase, the wines of Tenuta Villa Rovere are vinified and aged in our cellar at the Azienda Agricola San Martino in Forlì. For the ageing of its wines Tenuta Villa Rovere relies on the best cooperage in France: Adour, Seguin Moreau and Françoise Freres.
