Description

Barolo Chinato is an ancient Piedmontese digestive. The wine used as a production base is the Barolo Albe DOCG in the current vintage. It is sent to the "chinatura", that is, to the addition of infusions of about thirty herbs, peels and roots of plants, including the China (Cinchona Calisaya), hence the name.

A true family estate, G.D. Vajra blends tradition and innovation with heartfelt authenticity. Today, alongside founders Aldo and Milena Vaira, the new generation — Giovanni, Francesca, and Isidoro — carries the vision forward, also overseeing the historic Luigi Baudana estate in Serralunga d’Alba since 2009.

Every bottle reflects the family’s artisanal spirit and deep-rooted connection to the land, offering wines with soul, identity, and a timeless elegance.

Story The practice of aromatizing wine was widespread in Egypt, Persia and also in in ancient Rome, the Vermut (born in Turin at the end of the 18th century) has certainly drawn the inspiration from here, and the Barolo Chinato from Vermut. The originality of Barolo Chinato (whose creators were Dr. Cappellano at Serralunga and Zabaldano at Monforte), was to combine a mix of spices to an extraordinary wine which is the Barolo.
