Description

What kind of wine it is

Tenuta di Trinoro Toscana Rosso Campo di Tenaglia is a still red wine from Tuscany that precisely expresses the character of Cabernet Franc. To the eye, it displays a deep and intense ruby red colour. The aromatic bouquet reveals an interplay of black fruits such as blackberries and red bilberries, accompanied by notes of violet, graphite, cinnamon and mineral hints. On the palate, it offers a structured sip with a pleasantly velvety texture, supported by elegant and fine tannins. It is ideal for pairing with red meats and game, and also enhances mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This red originates in the Sarteano area from a specific sunset-facing plot known as Campo di Tenaglia. The over twenty-five-year-old vines sink their roots into a sandy, well-drained soil, enriched with calcareous aggregates. This terroir, situated at 550 metres above sea level, allows the distinctive features of the land to be fully expressed. To highlight this unique identity, Tenuta di Trinoro vinifies the grapes from this single vineyard separately, delivering in the glass the pure expression of an exceptional terroir.

How it is produced

The viticulture involves high planting density combined with extremely low yields, ensuring extraordinary aromatic concentration. After harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about twelve days. The subsequent ageing is divided into two phases: the wine initially rests for eight months in new French barrels, acquiring complexity and spicy nuances, then completes its maturation for a further eleven months in concrete vats. This meticulous production management defines a long-lived red, capable of evolving elegantly over time.

History and Curiosities

Born from a precious plot in Sarteano exposed to the sunset, this exceptional Toscana IGT reflects the most authentic soul of Tenuta di Trinoro. The historic Cabernet Franc vineyards, over twenty-five years old with deep roots, are set in sandy soil with limestone aggregates at an altitude of 500 metres. Thanks to the high planting density and extremely low yields, since 2014 these grapes have been bottled separately to capture the pure identity of Campo di Tenaglia, offering with the 2023 vintage a red wine of unmistakable character.

Located in a remote corner of southeastern Tuscany, Tenuta di Trinoro specializes in rich, age-worthy red wines made of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The Estate sits in viticultural isolation in the Orcia Valley near Sarteano, where Tuscany meets Umbria and Lazio.

The Founder, Andrea Franchetti acquired the property in the 1980s and in the beginning of the 1990s started planting his first vines. The most important lesson he gleaned from a stint in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw, in the rough woodland that would become Trinoro,clay-limestone and gravel soils reminiscent of those in Saint-Émilion. Only select parcels were suitable for vine-growing, amid a sea of blue clay, and those he cleared by hand and planted in the style of the Bordelais: high-density, meter-by-meter plantings, with cuttings brought over from some of the region’s great estates.
