Description

What kind of wine it is

Roagna Barbaresco Albesani is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes. Its aromatic profile reveals hints of violet petals and wild berries, enriched by notes of damp earth, subtle blood nuances, balsamic accents, and a delicate trace of leather. On the palate, it displays a solid acidic backbone and velvety tannins that are perfectly integrated, giving it a deep texture. The sip evolves with pinpoint precision, culminating in a long and savoury finish that enhances the entire tasting progression.

Where it comes from

Originating from Piedmont, this wine is produced in the Albesani cru of Neive, within the Barbaresco area. The vines sink their roots into clay-limestone soils, which are essential for imparting structure and savouriness to the wine. The plot includes old vines planted from the 1950s onwards; an ecosystem that ensures optimal ripening, resulting in a clear aromatic expression and an elegant, defined tannic structure.

How it is produced

The harvest, carried out by hand once full physiological ripeness is reached, is preceded by two rigorous selections of the grape bunches. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. This is followed by a traditional submerged cap maceration lasting almost two months, aimed at encouraging a slow extraction. The wine then matures for about five years in large neutral barrels and in concrete, a process that shapes the tannins while faithfully preserving the characteristics of the grape variety.

The true heritage of the Roagna family vineyards are the old vines. Plants that are at least 50 years old, in some cases even up to 80 years old. Vines that continue to produce few grapes but of high quality. Care and attention is dedicated to this heritage in the various estate vineyards between the Barbaresco and Barolo areas, in order to obtain a final product of the highest level.

Wines that fully express terroir, in the true sense of the term, where the grape variety and its place claim recognisability and authenticity in the glass. This is the desire of Alfredo and Luca Roagna.
